The 82nd Nevada Legislative Session ended June 5 at midnight, and the Black & Wadhams Government Relations Team feverishly put together the attached session wrap up report.
Since that session ended on Monday, there have been two special sessions – one focusing on the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget and one on the funding for moving the Oakland A’s to Las Vegas. Weary legislators with heightened emotions attended these two sessions that were called within 24 hours of each other. Republican Senator Scott Hammond, who has termed out of the Legislature, broke party lines and gave Democrats the two-thirds majority to pass the CIP legislation. As of this writing, the A’s bill (SB1) is being heard and discussed in a Senate Committee of a Whole (COW), allowing the entire body of lawmakers to consider major business. Should SB1 pass the Senate, then the process would repeat in the Assembly. This process was used in 2016 to hear the Raiders stadium bill. As of this writing, any vote to process this major legislation will be close.
